CORTINA DAMPEZZO, Italy -- Defending overall World Cup champion Tina Maze finally got her first victory of the season, winning the prestigious Cortina downhill Saturday to signal a return to form just in time for the Sochi Olympics. The Slovenian clocked 1 minute, 37.79 seconds down the Olympia delle Tofane course, which was bathed in sunshine, then performed her trademark handstand celebration during the podium proceedings. "There were a lot of emotions," Maze said. "It was a really long time. ... When I find the right feeling like I found it today I can ski fast." Marianne Kaufmann-Abderhalden of Switzerland finished second, 0.27 seconds behind, and Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein was third, 0.38 back. Maze had a record-breaking season a year ago with 11 wins. This season, she had only three podium results -- until this race. "When you win a lot you dont learn much," Maze said. "With my ups and downs its a lot of learning." Two weeks ago, Maze made a staff change in her personal team, which is run by her boyfriend and coach Andrea Massi. They replaced Walter Ronconi with former Switzerland coach Mauro Pini. The switch seems to have paid off and the timing couldnt have been better -- in the final downhill before the Sochi Games, where the womens downhill is scheduled for Feb. 12. Pini urged Maze to put more emotion into her skiing. "That was really good because Andrea was always saying to ski without feelings," Maze said. "But sometimes thats not possible. "(Pini) brought a lot of peace to our team because compared to Andrea and I hes one step in front of us," Maze added. "And thats what we were expecting from someone in that position. He came really motivated and that makes us easygoing and we have more energy for ourselves." Pini was formerly Lara Guts personal coach and he led the Swiss mens squad at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, when Didier Defago won gold in downhill. He then coached the Swiss womens team and more recently was a TV commentator. "I could sense a good feeling from the first words we shared with each other," Pini said. "Tina never forgot how to ski. She was always capable, she just needed to focus her energy better and get rid of those negative vibes." "At this level a couple different words here or there can create all the difference," Pini added. "Its not like we had to start over from scratch." With the skies perfectly clear to show off the jagged peaks that provide some of the most spectacular scenery in the Dolomite Range, Maria Hoefl-Riesch finished fourth to follow up her victory in Fridays downhill. The German said she felt some pain in her left knee after landing a jump awkwardly a day earlier. Still, Hoefl-Riesch maintained her lead in the overall and downhill standings. In another strong showing from the U.S. Ski Team without injured Lindsey Vonn, Stacey Cook matched her fifth-place finish from Friday and teammate Julia Mancuso placed seventh to match her best result of the season from a super-G two days earlier. "It always stings when you are so close to the podium, but I know this is a positive move heading toward Sochi," Cook said. This was the third of four races in four days. Elisabeth Goergl won a super-G on Thursday and another super-G is scheduled for Sunday. Weirather finished fourth and second in the opening two races this week. "Its hard to have four good races in a row but I will try," she said. Two of the races were originally scheduled for last weekend in Cortina but were wiped out by heavy snowfall. The other two were moved from Garmisch-Partenkirchen due to a lack of snow in the German resort. The womens circuit then moves to Kranjska Gora for a giant slalom and slalom next weekend -- the final races before Sochi and Mazes home event. "Im really excited to ski that slope," Maze said Tracy Mcgrady Jersey . The United States clinched the final berth into the Ford Worlds, March 28-April 6 at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, on Saturday in Blaine, Minn.IRVING, Texas - Tony Romo kept his notes on Philadelphia after Dallas blowout loss on Thanksgiving with the NFC East lead on the line. They will come in handy for the rematch two weeks later with the teams again tied atop the division at 9-4 following the Eagles loss to Seattle. The Dallas quarterback said the challenge before last weeks 41-28 win over the Bears was not letting his mind drift to the defensive scheme the Eagles used in one of Romos worst games of the season. Philadelphia won the first meeting 33-10.I think that well be able to do some things that we wanted to do previously, Romo said of the Eagles, not long after beating Chicago in yet another efficient showing. A lot of times you just forget and go right on. Well, I didnt want to forget everything because I wanted to utilize it again. Thats a long way of saying youve got to compartmentalize and figure it out and move on and come right back to it.Receiver Dez Bryant admitted in the moments after Philadelphias easy victory that he couldnt wait to face the Eagles again. Now that the rematch has arrived, the Cowboys have to figure out why NFL rushing leader DeMarco Murray had one of just two games this season without at least 100 yards. The Cowboys also had trouble stopping the run, with LeSean McCoy getting a season-high 159 yards — the most Dallas has allowed this year and one of only two 100-yard games for opposing rushers. We can look at different things in that game and say we did things the right away and we had some success, we didnt do things the right way and they had some success, said coach Jason Garrett, who wasnt very interested Monday in revisiting details of the first meeting. Control what we can control. That game is done with. Its been done with. It aint coming back. The biggest difference is that the Cowboys have 10 days to prepare for the rematch after getting about 90 hours between the end of a Sunday night win over the New York Giants and the Thanksgiving afternoon kickoff against the Eagles.Philadelphia was in the same position the last time, although with a few more hours while having to make the long trip.dddddddddddd. This time the Eagles get a regular week.Romo never considered the short week an issue despite that being the first time he had done it on his surgically repaired back. He later acknowledged that he didnt take an injection for pain against the Eagles, and said it was a mistake. On two of his four sacks in the first meeting, Romo quickly went down without trying to escape.Getting a full week is a game-changer I feel like, said Romo, who also acknowledged he was overly protective of his back against the Eagles. I think it will be that way the rest of the year. After the Chicago game, Romo said he was dealing with a rib issue in addition to a back injury that wasnt related to surgery last December. Garrett said Monday that Romo had rib cartilage damage, not a fracture as the quarterback indicated Thursday.Either way, another few days off not too far removed from the bye is helping the 34-year-old Romo. Its getting toward the end I feel like, Romo said of the injuries. Itll be nice when its just about the back improving instead of all the other little junk.Philadelphias loss to Seattle was a bit of a mixed blessing for Dallas because if the Cowboys cant win the rematch, their likely path to the playoffs through the wild-card race got more complicated with the Seahawks win.The best illustration: Seattles win meant Dallas would be out if the playoffs started this week.Garrett isnt worried about that illustration. The biggest thing we have to do is focus on ourselves, Garrett said. We control our destiny as a team. If we focus on doing what we need to do to play our best football, things will all work out fine.Starting with take two against the Eagles.NOTES: Garrett said he expected S Jeff Heath (broken thumb) and CB Tyler Patmon (knee) to return to practice this week. ... CB Micah Pellerin was waived.___Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL___Follow Schuyler Dixon on Twitter at https://twitter.com/apschuyler ' ' '
