WINNIPEG -- It was a few days early but the Winnipeg Jets gave cheering fans a long-awaited present Friday night as they capped the resurgent Florida Panthers winning streak at five with a 5-2 home-ice win. Jacob Trouba, Toby Enstrom, Blake Wheeler, Evander Kane and Michael Frolik scored for the Jets (16-16-5), who hadnt won a home game since Nov. 15. Shawn Matthias and Nick Bjugstad scored for the tired-looking Panthers (14-18-5). Both goals were unassisted, and thanks to giveaways by the Jets deep in their own zone. With Florida playing their second game in two nights after beating Ottawa 4-2, Winnipeg came out fast and dominated the opening minutes against their former Southeast rivals. But it was the Panthers who scored first, as Dustin Byfugliens attempt to raise a clearing pass bounced off Matthias and he snapped one in at 7:45. The Jets had plenty of chances in the penalty-filled first. But the teams were even when Trouba tied it with his soft tip at 11:06. It looked like Florida goalie Jacob Markstrom kicked it into his net with his skate as he scrambled to block it. The Jets made it 2-1 on a five-on-three as Enstrom fired one from the slot at 15:24 and Wheeler finished off the five-on-four as he deflected Zach Bogosians shot past Markstrom just 33 seconds later. It was Bogosians first game since that last home-ice win Nov. 15. He was out with what is thought to have been a groin injury. Kane flipped in Froliks pass to make it 4-1 just 1:03 into the second as the pair grabbed just enough space for a two-on-one. But Bjugstad narrowed the gap with Floridas second goal at 5:55 of the second with his wrist shot when he intercepted Kanes cross-ice pass in front of the Winnipeg net. Frolik restored the three-goal lead at 17:53 when he snapped in Andrew Ladds rebound. Notes: The piper who opened the game got a round of applause for "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" for the Jets last game before the holiday. Jets Mark Scheifele extended his point streak to five games, the longest active streak among NHL rookies. With another two assists, Scheifele also has collected 12 points over the last 12 games, dating back to Nov. 23. Nik Stauskas Cavaliers Jersey . The move - the latest twist in Greeces nearly three-year financial freefall -- is the first such action by any of the countrys major sports bodies. It immediately halts all domestic track and field competitions, including track meets May 12-13 in several Greek cities.NEWCASTLE, England - Ayoze Perez came on at halftime to score the winner for the second straight week as Newcastle beat a lacklustre Liverpool 1-0 Saturday in the Premier League.Moussa Sissoko broke into Liverpools penalty area in the 73rd minute at St. James Park and tried to play in Remy Cabella. Alberto Moreno intercepted the cross but was unable to clear, and Perez lashed the ball in from 10 metres (yards). We were punished for a mistake and that is what cost us the game, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said. We passed the ball well. The options in front of the ball were good but we probably lacked that little bit in the final third of the field. We did not create as much as we would have liked. It was Newcastles second victory against a top club in four days, having eliminated Manchester City from the League Cup on Wednesday. Newcastle defender Steven Taylor praised manager Alan Pardew for responding to intense pressure from supporters to leave the club by inspiring his side to a fourth straight win.Everybody is fully behind him and the main thing is, we keep winning and everybody is happy, Taylor said. Its exciting and obviously we have got a bit of momentum going into the next game but wee just keep taking it one game at a time and not getting carried away.ddddddddddddIt was yet another Liverpool display lacking the energy and creativity it became renowned for last season and another Premier League game where Mario Balotelli failed to find the net for his new club, taking the unwanted streak to eight matches.Papiss Cisse came closest to opening the scoring in the first half for Newcastle on 37 minutes, when Glen Johnson cleared his shot off the line after Simon Mignolet had failed to claim a corner.Three minutes later, Martin Skrtel sent a free header wide from Steven Gerrards corner in Liverpools only key chance in a subdued performance. The 21-year-old Perez replaced Cisse at the interval, and after scoring the winner in Newcastles 2-1 comeback victory at Tottenham last weekend, proved the difference once again for Pardews side.Newcastle could have secured the result four minutes after scoring when Cabella raced through one-on-one against Mignolet, but the Liverpool goalkeeper saved Cabellas low shot with his feet.Rodgers introduced strikers Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert in search of an equalizer, but Liverpool failed to create anything to challenge Tim Krul.
